At varsity’s convocation, FG restates pledge to reduce poverty

The Federal Government has expressed serious concern about the prevalence high rate of poverty among Nigerians and would leave no stone unturned to ensure improvement in the living condition of the people.

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, who made the observation noted that about two third of Nigerians are extremely poor and living far below the poverty line.

He, however, stated the determination of the current leadership in the country to reverse the ugly trend by working assiduously to transform
the society through good policies and programmes aimed at bringing succour to the populace.

He spoke in Ede, Osun State while delivering a keynote address at the 10th anniversary and seventh convocation ceremony of Redeemer’s University (RUN), Ede, Osun State.

Osinbajo, whose speech was entitled: “Engaging the Future’’ also noted that Africa is lagging behind in the areas of technology and development and urged Nigerians to accept the reality by bracing up to raise the nation’s development portfolio.

He particularly tasked the graduands to think out of the box in meeting the great challenge on how to enhance the development of the society. He said the on-going fight against corruption by the federal government is irrevocable adding that if the country would make a headway corruption and corrupt elements must be fought to a standstill.

He added that the federal government is planning towards improvement in the power supply with the aim of providing a regular power supply for increasing the productive capacity of the economy.

Addressing the convocation, Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola urged the graduands to utilise the knowledge imparted in them and strive hard in the competitive world to make success their goal. He expressed delight at the dramatic transformation of physical infrastructure at the permanent site of the university within a short period saying the trend was achieved by good vision and managerial competence of its founding fathers and the school management.

The visitor to the university and the General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God [RCCG], Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye in his speech attributed the success attained by the university divine power saying people should be on the side of God if they want to make progress in life.

His words, “I admonish people to give their lives to God who is able to transform them and take them to a level they have never imagined. The university is able to surpass older universities because it belongs to God.’’

The renowned cleric urged the graduands “to be a pacesetter in all your endeavours, such that when we hear of you, it will be good news
promoting the good virtues that your alma mater has imparted in you.’’

The highlight of the event was the honourary award bestowed on the wife of the RCCG General Overseer, Pastor (Mrs) FoluAdeboye and
other eminent Nigerian, Prof. Olajide Aboaba.

Mrs Adeboye was conferred with Doctor of Science (Management) while Prof. Aboaba was also honoured with Doctor of The science of the university.

A total of 15 graduands bagged first class degrees,135 were in Second Class Upper category, 200 came up with Second Class Lower division, 97 received third class and two were in pass category.
