Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Women in the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, yesterday, stated that the presidential candidate of their party, Atiku Abubakar would put things right if elected as president.
The women, who dismissed the possibility of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi winning the election on Saturday, said the country at this time needs a serious person to deliver it from the quagmire that the All Progressives Congress (APC), had plunged it.
The women spoke at “walk/drive through Lagos” organised for Atiku/Okowa campaign in the state.
A member of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Mrs Aduke Maina, urged the people to vote for Atiku, describing him as the man that has what it takes to make the country work.
She said: “So we are here to tell the people of Lagos State and Nigeria in general, that this man Atiku is the right person to hold this country together. He knows what it takes to make the country work. He has done it before. He displayed this when he was the vice president. So, we still need him, most especially this time that everything had gone haywire and upside down in the country.
“What is the difference between the North and South? We want the country to function well and, to be put right. Whether you come from the East, West or anywhere, what is important is for the country to be put right. Now that the PDP has chosen Atiku as their presidential candidate, lets vote for him.”
Also a member of the BoT, Dr. Bimbola Ogunkelu said Nigeria is ripe for a new government, saying that the APC brought a negative change to the country.
He added that the PDP is positioned to take the chance to make thing right, ensuring that the issues of insecurity and poverty are addressed.
“There is no food, money, fuel and insecurity is on the rise. Eight years ago, they chanted change and at that time, we asked, if it was going to be a positive or negative change? We got a negative change. Nigeria is now at the rock bottom. We have come from top to bottom. This is the time Nigeria should rise again. There must be a new government come this Saturday. There must be change all over the country with subsequent elections. And Nigeria is ripe for a new government,” Ogunkelu said.
Former Lagos State Chairman of PDP, Tunji Shelle, described Atiku as an experienced candidate, who is well known across the country, adding that he has what it takes to turn the fortune of Nigeria around.
“A lot of infrastructures have decayed, despite that there is modest amount of money to do a lot of things. Schools were shut down for nine months and nothing happened. All these things can be corrected, if Atiku emerges as president.
“Nobody is perfect, but as at today, he is the best candidate that can make a change in the evolution of this country. Nigeria needs to be recovered and rescued. It’s time to move away from the past.”
Also a member of the PCC, Mrs Agboola Thomas, lamented that under the current administration, the education sector has decayed, while the economy is in comatose.
She added that it is the focus of the PDP to get about 35 percent of votes in Lagos, nothing that Atiku’s emergence would set the country on the path of growth and progress.
