Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has appeared before the Presidential Screening Panel of the African Democratic Party to submit his credentials for verification for the party’s presidential nomination process.
In addition to that, he also presented his economic rescue blueprint and security agenda for the country’s relief from economic distress and escalating insecurity.
Speaking after the screening exercise, Atiku said the session went beyond a routine verification of credentials, describing it as an opportunity to outline practical solutions to Nigeria’s worsening economic hardship and growing insecurity.
In a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, and released on 20th May, 2026, the former Vice President warned that Nigeria could no longer afford economic stagnation, rising unemployment, policy inconsistency, and institutional decline.
He said his economic agenda would focus on job creation, private sector growth, fiscal discipline, stable macroeconomic policies, and restoring investor confidence in the Nigerian economy.
Atiku also expressed deep concern over the country’s deteriorating security situation, citing recurring massacres, kidnappings, and terror attacks across several parts of the country.
According to him, his proposed security strategy would prioritise intelligence-driven operations, improved inter-agency collaboration, decentralised security structures, and decisive action against criminal elements.
“At this defining moment in our national life, Nigeria does not need experiments. It needs tested leadership, clarity of vision, and the courage to make difficult but necessary decisions in the national interest,” Atiku said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to building what he described as a secure, united, and prosperous Nigeria where citizens can live peacefully and pursue opportunities with dignity.
