The governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in the 2023 general election, in Ebonyi State, Chukwuma Nwandugo, has condemned the attack on his All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) counterpart, Prof. Benard Odoh and his campaign team, in the state.

Odoh and his team were allegedly attacked in Izzi Local Government Area (LGA) of the state on Thursday, where he had gone to meet with party faithful, officials and supporters.

Describing the attack as barbaric and undemocratic, Nwandugo noted that Ebonyi State was supposed to be free for everybody, irrespective of party or clan, to conduct his constitutional business of electioneering campaigns.

Nwandugo, a former Commissioner for Works and Transport, in the state, said: “I have said it before and I’m saying it now. My governorship bid is not for Izzi alone. It’s for Izzi, Ezza, Edda, Okposi, Ehugbo, Ngbo, Nkalagu, Ikwo, Effium and all other tribes and clans in the entire 13 LGAs. It is for both the poor and the rich in Ebonyi State, irrespective of religion and party. It’s for the entire state.

“It’s a game, that I believe all candidates (irrespective of party and clan) should be allowed to freely present themselves for Ebonyians to select whoever they want. It’s not a do-or-die affair. This is my understanding about democracy and the genuine electioneering process. The epoch is constitutionally supposed to be a time for the residents and the electorate to assess who they want to lead them based on credibility, integrity and competence.

“The attack on Prof. Odoh, is strange to Ebonyi politics and does not, in any way, represent the dreams and chastity of Ebonyi founding fathers, who laboured and fought for the creation of this state some years ago.

“The attack is evil. The attack is undemocratic. The attack is wicked. The attack is alien to our people and is also capable of heating up the polity. I advise Ebonyi people to reject every attempt by the enemies and all haters of peace of the state, to disrupt the minutest peace currently being enjoyed in the state.”

He called on law enforcement agencies in the state to track those responsible for the attack to avoid further occurrence.
