Auchi records first rain in 2016

Auchi, the headquarters of Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo, and its environs on Saturday recorded the first rainfall of the year, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

NAN reports that the rain started around 5:30 a.m. and lasted for about two hours.

Some of the residents who spoke to NAN in separate interviews, said that they were delighted with the early rainfall, adding that it would reduce the prevailing heat.

A resident, Mr Ibrahim Sadiq said that as a result of the early morning rainfall, he was able to sleep well.

“The first rain of the year is a sign of blessing, I never knew it will come this early; all the same it is a welcome development,” he said.

A farmer, Mr Mohammed Abdulahi, said the rain was a sign of blessing for the community and the state.

He said the early rainfall was a sign that there would be bountiful harvest for the farmers in the area.

“I hope it will bring more blessing in food production this year, I foresee a bountiful harvest this year,” he said.
