Awolowo heiress hails Fasoranti’s steadfast leadership in Afenifere

The heiress of the Awolowo political dynasty, Ambassador (Dr.) Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu has lauded the leadership and unwavering commitment of Afenifere Leader, Chief Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, saying his consistency offers hope for the future of the Yoruba nation and Nigeria.

Awolowo-Dosunmu spoke while receiving a high-powered Afenifere delegation sent by Pa Fasoranti to commiserate with the family over the passing of Mr. Segun Awolowo Jnr., the first grandson of the late sage, who died in November at the age of 62.

She paid glowing tribute to the Afenifere leader, noting that his loyalty to the Awolowo family has remained steadfast from Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s lifetime to the present day.
“Pa Fasoranti has stood firmly with our family through the decades,” she said. “We are grateful for his unfailing fatherly love and support.”

Delivering Fasoranti’s condolence message, former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, said Segun’s death had “created a vacuum,” but urged the family to remain encouraged, stressing that he lived a meaningful life and left behind a worthy legacy.

According to a statement issued by Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Jare Ajayi, Omisore reminded the family that a good name remains the most enduring legacy anyone can leave behind.
“We remember Pa Awolowo today not for wealth or estates, but for his integrity and contributions. Segun emulated this by conducting himself with dignity,” he said.

The delegation reaffirmed Afenifere’s commitment to the principles and ideals championed by the late Chief Awolowo, promising to uphold the values that defined his leadership.

In her response, a visibly moved Awolowo-Dosunmu expressed confidence that the Yoruba and Nigeria would rise again, emphasising that the ideals of integrity, service and progressive leadership—hallmarks of the Awolowo tradition—remain alive. She asked the delegation to convey the family’s goodwill to the Afenifere leader, while wishing Pa Fasoranti many more years of service to Yorubaland and the nation.

Both parties later offered prayers for Afenifere, the Yoruba race and Nigeria.
The delegation was thereafter taken on a tour of the historical landmarks within the Awolowo residence, including the Awo Museum, Awo Library and Efunyela Hall.

The Afenifere team was led by Senator Omisore and included Agbaakin Ademola Folarin, Secretary-General; Mr. Lanre Omisore, Financial Secretary; Dr. Niyi Osoba, Ogun State Chairman; Otunba Deji Wellington, Lagos State Chairman; Hon. Wale Adedayo; and Chief Olasehinde, Secretary, Ogun State Chapter.
