Badaru Laments Poor Education, Health System In Jigawa

Jigawa State Governor Mohammad Badaru Abubakar has decried the poor state and continuous slide in the standard of education in the state from successive government.

Badaru, who raised the alarm yesterday when he hosted some senior media practitioners in his office at Dutse, the state capital, stated that the present reality requires divine intervention.

Besides, the governor observed similar predicament in the health care system, saying public health facilities still suffer acute manpower underdevelopment.

Obviously worried with the performance of students in the last WAEC examination, the governor regretted the 4.5 per cent result of students with five credits, despite government’s payment of N600 million for the their final examines.

He equally decried what he described as poor quality and quantity of teachers in the state.To tackle shortage of burses and medical doctors in public health facilities, Badaru hinted of government’s plan to select 150 students across the state to study nursing abroad.

He stressed that 60 students were also chosen to study medicine abroad, with an agreement to work in the state-owned facilities for three years after graduation.

This, he said, was in addition to ongoing rehabilitation and upgrade of two general hospitals in the state.
The governor posited that in spite of the decline in Internally Generated revenue and federal allocation, he has spent over N10 billion towards the completion of abandoned roads projects.

He noted that over N700 million has been earmarked for water project in the last eight months of his administration, which has attracted investment opportunity in the areas of agriculture and solid minerals to boost economic activities in the state.
