Bago inspects Level II Primary Health Centre to boost community healthcare

Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State

Niger State Governor, Muhammad Umaru Bago, carried out a routine supportive supervision and facility inspection of a Level II Primary Health Care (PHC) Centre in Kataeregi, Katcha Local Government Area of the state, as part of the fourth quarter 2025 health sector performance review.

The supervision aligns with the administration’s commitment to ensuring that health sector reforms translate into tangible benefits for citizens. Governor Bago has continued to take governance directly to the grassroots through hands-on supervision of health facilities across the state.

During the visit, the governor interacted with frontline health workers, facility managers, members of the Ward Development Committee (WDC), and community stakeholders to assess the performance of the centre and evaluate the progress of key primary healthcare programmes, particularly routine immunisation.

The engagement provided the governor with first-hand insight into the operational realities of healthcare delivery at the community level. Health workers and stakeholders also highlighted challenges affecting service delivery at the facility.

Recognising the strategic importance of the centre due to its location along a major highway, the governor directed measures aimed at strengthening its capacity to respond to emergencies and deliver improved healthcare services.

The interventions include the provision of an ambulance, establishment of an Accident and Emergency unit, expansion of manpower, and improved accommodation for health personnel.

Governor Bago emphasised that strengthening primary healthcare remains central to his administration’s strategy for improving health outcomes across the state.

He also encouraged health workers to remain committed to their duties and urged community members, particularly pregnant women, to take advantage of antenatal and maternal health services available at the facility.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Murtala Muhammad Bagana, said the governor’s direct involvement in facility supervision demonstrates strong leadership and would further inspire confidence and accountability within the health sector.

The visit underscores Governor Bago’s governance philosophy of direct oversight and community engagement, ensuring that government policies translate into meaningful improvements in the lives of people across Niger State.
