Bandits kill 30 security corps, vigilante members in Katsina
Daredevil bandits have reportedly killed 30 security operatives consisting of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) and vigilante members in Katsina State.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at about 4:30pm, in Baure village, Safana Local Government Area, when a joint security team was returning from a condolence visit.
Some of the security operatives were said to have also been injured during the incident and have since been moved to the hospital for treatment. However, spokesperson for the Police Command in the state, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, while confirming the incident on Friday, said only 21 persons lost their lives in the attack.
“On January 7, 2025, in Baure village, Safana LGA, Katsina State, some suspected armed bandits attacked a joint team of Katsina State Community Watch Corps and vigilante members, who were returning from a condolence visit.
“The incident occurred at about 1630hrs, prompting a swift response from police operatives attached to Safana Divisional Headquarters, who rushed to the scene and restored normalcy.
“Sadly, 21 persons were fatally shot as a result of the attack.
“Efforts are currently being made to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators of the dastardly act. Further developments will be communicated in due course as the investigation proceeds,” Aliyu said.
