Twenty-seven of the 37 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Working Committee (SWC) in Bauchi State have passed a no confidence vote in the Chairman, Babayo Misau, after their meeting, yesterday.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting at the party’s Secretariat, APC Legal Advisor, Rabiu Garba, said the embattled chairman had been flouting the party’s constitution, displaying inept leadership and contributed to the party’s failure in the 2023 general elections, particularly in the governorship.
“Having resolved and reflected on the issues and crisis bedevilling our party, particularly what we have been facing immediately after the primary elections, till the general elections, we have, today, witnessed a lot of negativities in the party. Members have begun to lose confidence in the administration of APC in Bauchi.
“To tackle the situation, the State Executive Council (SEC) met this morning and took a stand. Consequently, in accordance with Article 17 (5) of the 2022 Constitution of APC (as amended), we unanimously passed a vote of no confidence in the state chairman. And under Article 17 (6), we appointed his deputy, Mohammed Tilde, in acting capacity.”
Garba said the party would forward the report of the congress to the national leadership of APC and subsequently call for congress to ratify the decision.
Similarly, the State High Court, presided over by Justice Lamido Umar, has ordered Misau to stop parading himself as chairman of the party in the state, pending the determination of the motion on notice.
The suit, BA/07/992/2023, is between the plaintiffs (APC concerned citizens) and defendants (Misau and APC). Counsel to the plaintiffs, Isa Mohammed, alleged that Babayo contravened the laws of the party and acted against the victory of the party in the recent governorship election in Bauchi.
He told the court that the chairman acted against the party’s constitution during the 2023 general election, which led to the party’s failure in the governorship election in the state.
