Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, (FFS), Abdulganiyu Jaji, has called on Nigerians to be fire safety conscious in the festive season to avoid fire accidents.
in a felicitation message to all Christians, Jaji said with many families and friends coming together to enjoy the festivities, it is easy to become distracted with so much going on and easy for a fire to accidents to strike.
In a communique signed by the Public Relations Officer, (PRO), of the service, Abraham Paul, Jaji tasked all to avoid any act capable of starting a fire as the Yuletide is characterized by the influx of all manner of people for business and social interactions; a period for merry-making, which comes with its adverse effects.
“Let us remind ourselves by re-visiting the causes of some fires and carnages in our homes and on our roads such as overloading of electrical sockets, improper and careless usage of Liquified Petroleum Gas, (LPG), as well as the maintenance of electrical equipment and careless usage and handling of naked flame such as candles among others.
The CG advised all to think of ‘‘safety first as it is worth noting that fire safety or prevention is a shared responsibility and for the Federal Fire Service to be successful, the citizens must emulate good safety practices by installing early detection and warning systems as well as fire extinguishers on their premises.”
