Beacon 33 Foundation delivers healthcare, relief, hope to Makoko residents

On August 23, 2025, the floating community of Makoko in Lagos experienced a rare moment of relief and support as the Beacon 33 Foundation, in collaboration with partners, conducted a large-scale outreach programme. Residents received free medical supplies, health checks, relief materials, and school items for children, a move that brought both immediate assistance and a sense of inclusion to the often-overlooked community.

Organised with the support of CCI Global Medical Team, Lagos State AIDS Control Agency, Ftloc, Love Legacy, Zeelicious Cakes and Confectioneries, Orca Securities, and Distinct Media, the initiative aimed to bridge gaps in healthcare and social support in Makoko, known for its stilted homes and limited infrastructure.

Founder Adedoyin Samuel said the Foundation’s mission, summed up in the mantra “Isolation to Inclusion,” seeks to ensure that people living in marginalised conditions feel recognised and supported. “Our goal is to reach communities that are often forgotten, providing both practical support and a reminder that they are seen and valued,” Samuel said.

Beacon 33 has steadily built a reputation for such interventions, previously extending aid to the Women’s Correctional Centre in Kirikiri, Lagos State, with sanitary supplies, medical items, and free health checks.

For Makoko residents, the outreach was more than charity; it was a signal that consistent engagement and community support can bring tangible hope to areas long neglected.
