Bello preaches love, peace at Christmas, Saraki shares palliatives
Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has felicitated with Christians across the globe as they celebrate Christmas.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Onogwu Mohammed, the outgoing governor emphasised that the season symbolises hope for humanity, encouraging citizens to maintain a positive outlook.
He urged Nigerians to embody God’s love for humanity and extend that love to their neighbours during the festive season.
While acknowledging the holiday as an excellent time to share joy with family and friends, Bello also emphasised the importance of sober reflections and prayers for peace, unity and togetherness, especially when the country is navigating a new economic course.
Expressing joy that the people of Kogi are witnessing another Christmas, Bello acknowledged the boundless mercy and love of God, despite individual and collective challenges.
He highlighted the administration’s commitment to peace and security, noting the remarkable progress in socio-economic growth and infrastructural development.
President of the 8th Senate, Bukola Saraki, has doled out cash and food items as palliatives to the Christian faithful, party members, artisans, transporters, various groups including religious bodies and communities in Kwara State to ensure a happy celebration in the face of the biting economic hardship.
According to his Press Officer on Local Matters, Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir, the gesture is a yearly practice to identify with the people of Kwara during Yuletide, particularly Christians, to ensure they celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ with joy.
He said the distribution of the several items, which is coordinated by a committee headed by the State Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP,) Abdullahi Kayode, started yesterday.
Saraki admonished Christians to re-commit themselves to the ideals and teachings of Jesus Christ, which include piety, love, generosity and peaceful coexistence.
“As we merry, let us remember to pray for our country, Nigeria, and Kwara to flourish, so we can celebrate the coming years in abundance and fulfilment,” he said.
