Bishop Akinola tasks FG on good governance

Bishop-Taiwo-Akinola

The Presiding Bishop of Rhema Christian Church and Tower (RCC&T), Dr. Taiwo Akinola, has called on the Federal Government to address the issues of insecurity, unemployment, poverty, and crass exclusion of the youths in governance as a way to repositioning the country.

The cleric said this at the church international headquarters, Sango Ota, while addressing the press on the church’s 30th Anniversary and Annual Convocation, beginning next Sunday, November 7 with the theme, “A New Thing.”

He said the event would hold in two venues, the church’s international headquarters in Sango Ota on the first and last day, and the City of Zion, church’s Camp Ground at Moluferin, Wasinmi, Ogun State, as well as its other branches across the world.

Dr. Akinola called for the need to review the constitution, so that state governors, who are the chief security officers of their states, could have direct control over security apparatus and effectively check criminal activities.

The cleric also urge the Federal Government to boost the economy so that the nation’s currency would not continue to slide downwards, adding that the free fall of the Naira against major currencies like the pounds, dollars and others has led to the rise of cost of living, escalating cost of food items, medical consumables and raw materials for industries, saying has contributing to some medium and micro firms closing shops, while the big ones are struggling to exist.

He noted that unless Nigeria increases its foreign reserves, reduce ridiculous and almost insatiable appetite for foreign loans, boost local production to depend less on importation of goods including refined petroleum products, the Naira will continue its downward slide.

“We implore government to make Forex available to genuine manufacturers to enable them increase local production of goods and stimulate businesses and by extension economic growth. Government has to take the necessary steps to save the economy and Nigerians from further impoverishment,” he said.

Akinola also called on all Nigerians that are qualified to vote in 2023 to make sure that they do not vote for those who hope to continue to play the games of political manipulation, deceit, empty promises, ethnocentrism and reckless injustices in public office in 2023, saying such leaders do not mean well for the nation.

Urging Christians to go into politics, he noted that God expects them to have roles in governance, fill places of trust and responsibility and have controlling voices in the affairs of our societies and their refusal would mean giving room for less qualified people to take decision for them.

He disclosed that the convention would not only care for participants spiritual needs alone, as there is going to be free medical consultation and treatment of common ailments, free eye screening, screening for hypertension, diabetics, hepatitis B; and free distribution of analgesic, multivitamins and haematinics, and health talks and counseling.
