
IT was a tragic end for a 27-year-old man who died at weekend in a boat mishap in Yenagoa, the Baylesa State capital.
Eyewitness report said that the victim, one Mr. Nwani Nnamdi, was said to have died after a canoe conveying him and one other person capsized down the creeks.
Details on the condition of the other passenger were sketchy, but Nnamdi was reported to have died before help came his way.
Nnamdi’s unidentified co-traveller was believed to have survived the accident.
The canoe driver was said to have lost control when it was lurched against strong waves caused by a passenger speedboat.
Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the incident, said the deceased, whose corpse had been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, hailed from Ebonyi State and that efforts were ongoing to locate his relatives in order as quickly as possible.
“The deceased, hails from Ebonyi State and he was 27 years old as at the time of the unfortunate incident,’’ he said.
“We are working round the clock to locate his relatives to enable them evacuate his corpse after our investigations into the incident,” he added.
