The Borno, Delta, and Sokoto police commands have disbursed funds to the families of fallen officers in their jurisdictions.
In Delta, the state police command disbursed a total of N16.67 million to families of deceased police officers, a gesture aimed at supporting those who lost loved ones in the line of duty.
The cheques, presented yesterday to 13 beneficiaries, form part of ongoing welfare efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to cushion the impact of the loss on bereaved families and reaffirm institutional support for its personnel.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, described the occasion as solemn and significant, underscoring the Force’s commitment to the welfare of officers and their dependents.
He assured the beneficiaries that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to stand by them, stressing that the sacrifices of fallen officers remain invaluable and would never be forgotten.
“Their service and ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty will always be remembered. The Force is committed to ensuring that their families are not left behind,” Oyeniyi said, while urging recipients to make prudent use of the funds.
The initiative highlights growing efforts by police authorities to improve morale within the ranks amid increasing security challenges across the country, where officers are frequently exposed to high-risk operations.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Ahanuwa Raphael expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Delta State Command for the financial support.
IN a similar development, the Police Command in Sokoto State, yesterday, also doled out over N33 million to the families of deceased police officers as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Week.
Speaking during the presentation, the Commissioner of Police in the State, Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, noted that it reflects the Force leadership’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their families.
The Commissioner stated that the sacrifices of fallen officers remain invaluable and will never be forgotten. Shaffa encouraged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the support provided, while assuring them that the Nigeria Police Force will continue to stand by them.
ALSO, the Borno State Police Commissioner, Naziru Abdulmajid, disbursed N5.51 million to 10 families of the fallen police officers in the state.
According to the command, the payments are under the Group Life Insurance (GLI) and the Inspector-General of Police Welfare (IGPW) schemes.
Spokesperson of the command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nahum Daso, yesterday in Maiduguri, said: “The commissioner’s disbursement of N5.51 million to the families of the fallen officers has underscored the NPF’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel and the 10 families of the fallen heroes.”
Daso, in the statement, further assured the families that an additional welfare support will also be provided to “sustain and enhance” the well-being of the beneficiaries of the NPF schemes.
