The Borno State government has lifted the three-day curfew and restriction of vehicles in Maiduguri metropolis owing to the “safe and successful” Eid-el-Fitri Sallah celebration, as there were no reported Boko Haram attacks or bombings in the last one week.

Announcing the relaxation of the curfew and vehicle restriction, the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Zannah Mustapha, at the Borno Radio Television (BRTV) Complex, Maiduguri, said the people should not be compelled to continue locked up in their homes and communities for three days running.

He, however, noted that the three-day curfew and vehicle restriction was to protect people’s lives and property during the Sallah celebration, but the Eid-el-Fitri festivities were safe and successful without recording any insurgent attack.

This, he said, has informed him to direct the military and other
security agencies on the Maiduguri roads and streets to reopen them for motorists and residents.

Mustapha also ordered the reopening of all closed markets, motor parks, hospitals and schools in the metropolis.

“With the lifting of this curfew and vehicle restriction, residents can as from today (yesterday) move and carry out their daily social and economic activities from 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily”, the deputy governor said, adding that the daily 9:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew was should still go on to protect people’s lives and property.
