The Borno State Police Command has announced a restriction on the movement of tricycles across the state during the two-day Sallah celebration.

The command said the measure is aimed at ensuring a hitch-free and peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration, marking the successful completion of the 30-day Ramadan fast.

The restriction was announced on Thursday in Maiduguri in a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, Nahum Daso.

He noted that the police have a constitutional mandate to protect lives and property, adding that the command has put in place a comprehensive security architecture to guarantee a safe and peaceful celebration.

“As part of our security measures, the command hereby announces the restriction on the movement of tricycles (Keke Napep) on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (noon),” Daso stated.

He explained that the directive is aimed at enhancing security coordination, easing crowd management, and preventing potential threats to public safety.

Daso urged residents to strictly comply with the restriction during the Sallah period.

The command also advised worshippers to observe Eid prayers at designated grounds closest to their residences to minimise movement and avoid overcrowding at prayer grounds and mosques.

He further disclosed that, in collaboration with other security agencies, adequate personnel have been deployed to Eid prayer grounds, markets, motor parks, and other vulnerable locations for crowd control, access regulation, traffic management, and general surveillance.

In addition, operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit have been strategically positioned at major gathering points to conduct thorough screening of persons and items entering designated prayer venues, as part of proactive measures to prevent any untoward incidents.

The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, tactical units, and intelligence operatives to intensify visibility policing, intelligence-led operations, and sustained patrols throughout the festive period, while maintaining professionalism and respect for citizens’ rights.

The command urged residents to remain vigilant, celebrate responsibly, and promptly report any suspicious movements or objects to the nearest police station.

Parents and guardians were also advised to keep a close watch on their children, especially in crowded environments.

The commissioner reassured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order before, during, and after the festivities.
