BPD takes diversion programme campaign to Ajeromi-Ifelodun Council

Lagos State Bureau of Public Defender

AS part of efforts to deepen the acceptance and establishment of the diversion programme across Lagos, with the goal of with local councils taking the lead and owning the initiative, the Bureau of the Public Defender has taken the campaign about the diversion programme for children in conflict with the law to Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Council.
The Bureau of the Public Defender (BPD), led by one of its Deputy Directors, Mrs. S. O. Ladipo, alongside Ms. Gloria C. Odimba, the Bureau’s Programme Officer for UNICEF collaborations, among other officials who were part of the delegation, paid an advocacy visit to Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Council as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen child justice administration in Lagos State.
The visit was part of the Bureau’s partnership with UNICEF to promote the establishment of diversion programme centres across local councils in Lagos State for children in conflict with the law. The initiative seeks to encourage greater local council support for child-friendly justice by providing alternatives to formal prosecution while promoting rehabilitation, reintegration, and the protection of children’s rights.
Before the advocacy visit to Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Council, the BPD and UNICEF team had earlier visited some local councils among which were Alimosho and Lagos Mainland local councils.
