Bonu Student Support Movement (BSSM), including leaders, parents, children and various groups in Badagry, have called on the leadership of All Progressive Congress (APC) in Lagos State, as well as the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to back the nomination of the immediate past Special Adviser on Tourism, Art and Culture to the governor, Solomon Saanu Bonu, to represent Badagry at the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Making the request at a press briefing in Badagry, the group said based on the existing structure of power rotation to accommodate all tribes and religions in Badagry, in Constituency 1, Bonu stands as the preferred candidate.

Other factors advanced for their support include Bonu’s pedigree as a courageous, friendly, compassionate, generous and purpose-driven leader with a lion’s heart who loves Badagry and its people dearly.
“Bonu has always clamoured for #Badagry First, an ambassador for a great Badagry whose love for the people has earned him a nickname among his colleagues as ‘SA Badagry’, meaning he is never ashamed that he is from Badagry.

“By year 2023, the current Lagos State House of Assembly member, representing Badagry Constituency 1, Olanrewaju Ibrahim Layode, would have spent 16 years. He is a Muslim from the Central one of the Constituency and also an Ayonu by tribe. It is therefore necessary that the coin be flipped to the other side, to allow a Christian from another zone and an Ogu,” they said.

According to BSSM, Bonu’s generosity has not been limited to the student’s body but extended to all the people of Badagry.

“He magnanimously built a three bed room flat for a woman and her five children living in a store to celebrate his birthday in 2020, among others.”

Bonu was also described as a vocal and articulate leader, who can speak for the people of Badagry.

“He is a passionate leader, very popular enough to galvanise massive vote in Badagry, a lobbyist, capable of bringing development to the town and one that can serve and support the governor in the legislative arm.”
