The All Progress Congress Buhari Support Organisation (BSO) yesterday kicked against the outcome of the recent ward congress in Kano, insisting the exercise lack democratic process.

Besides, the group accused the state government of turning APC leadership to another operating unit of government.

Addressing journalists in Kano, Chairman of BSO, Alhaji Shehu Dalhatu, declared that the group vehemently reject the consensus arrangement adopted by the party under the guide of the state government.

Dalhatu, who explained that justice was not served before the resolution reached, stressed that there is no where in the APC constitution where consensus arrangement should be adopted by few selected people.

The strong ally of President Muhammad Buhari described as most unfortunate the declaration of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who he said convened meeting of selected few in the party and invoke the idea of consensus.

He said: “We seek for justice because our believe is, election is most appropriate way of moving democracy forward and that is the more reason we support election. But we would not support situation where some people will decide to give us position or consensus.

“We want election where party members will come out to vote for candidates of their choice and such process is credible and winners emerge. We therefore see the position of the governor as unfortunate and premeditation of the outcome of the congress.

“I think consensus was supposed to be made before the congress of party loyalists and not before some selected people, who were brought before the governor to accept whatever he said. That agreement is unfortunate and can’t stand.”

Dalhatu continued: “We want free and fair election and who ever wins should be supported by the governor, who’s supposed to be the leader of every party members. We expect the governor rather to say go and conduct open election and where there is problem we can sit and resolve it as family members.

“But not to gather selected few who are mostly under his tutelage few days to the election and say we have decided on consensus, where we have millions of APC supporters, as a matter of fact, Kano has the largest supporters of APC in Nigeria. Ward election is where the party is supposed to show leadership. This is injustice.”

The Kano APC stalwart said APC leadership in the state is rather an extension of government house and expressed worry that “when you go to the secretariat you find nobody there because the party leadership has moved to government house.”

Countering the position of Dalhatu, however, state APC secretary, Zakari Sarina insisted the party consensus arrangement was adopted after wide consultation within stakeholders in the party.

Sarina, who refuted allegation of lopsidedness against some party members in Kano, disclosed that Buhari Support Organisation were invited and part of the agreement on consensus arrangement.

While exonerating Ganduje of middling in the affairs of the party, Sarina explained that government has never appoint any executive member of the party at the ward level. Although, he believed the party’s decision may not be accepted by the entire members of APC, the state scribe urged aggrieved members to lodge their complaints to special committee for approximate action.
