Bishop, Anglican Diocese of Asaba, Delta State, Rt. Rev. Kingsley Obuh, has alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is the worst ever since the country attained independence, lamenting that the President is “leaving Nigeria worse than he met it”.

Speaking with The Guardian at the weekend in his office, the state capital, Obuh said: “I can’t say I was disappointed as a person because I didn’t expect anything better when he was coming on board. For those, who were shouting at that time Buhari will do this, Buhari will do that, I have been wondering, is their memory so short. I was waiting for the miracle to happen because I suspected it will be like this.

“Talking about it today, even a blind man knows things are worse in all aspects than they were before. Is it food, is it education, is it security, is it power, is it infrastructure, is it agriculture, is it health sector, name it. Forget about what people will come on radio and TV to say, Buhari has failed, woefully.”

Asked to describe the situation of the country, Obuh said: “Nigeria is like a country that doesn’t know left from right, that doesn’t have direction, a country that has all it takes, yet taking nothing. It is like a country that has no leadership.”

Piqued by the manner leaders pilot the affairs of the country, the cleric, who expressed disappointment over “the pit of hell” Nigerians have found themselves, called for change towards achieving better fortunes for country.

According to him, Nigerian leaders are mostly concerned about their personal interests without thinking about the welfare and well-being of the masses.

“For a very long time now, leadership in Nigeria has been neither here nor there. People come into leadership and decide to pursue religious agenda, they pursue party agendas, they pursue selfish agendas and at the end of the day, the people are leaving the country.

Frustration, he said, prompted Nigerians, especially youths, to escape to other countries for greener pastures.

“Every time you see that America licenses Nigerian doctors and nurses, yet our leaders are not bothered because they know that when they are sick, they will go to meet those doctors there.  That is the kind of country we are in.

“I wouldn’t want to talk about the election we just had but they form the background of things we experience. Leadership in Nigeria has been without accountability, ” he said.

“All Progressives Congress (APC) government under Buhari is full of intimidation and when you challenge them, they dig into your primary or secondary school files, or look at your appointment to turn things against you.  So it became a problem. Even the National Assembly is not helping either; they always keep mute. The lawyers are working for them, we can’t say judiciary is the last hope of common man anymore in Nigeria.,” he lamented
