Buhari running Nigeria aground, says Bishop Mogekwu

Immediate past Bishop of Anglican Diocese of Asaba, Justus Mogekwu, has lampooned President Muhammadu Buhari for allegedly running the country aground in all ramifications.

Mogekwu, in an exclusive interview with The Guardian in Asaba, said right from the onset: “I knew Buhari was not going to do well even though people saw him as a truthful and integrity man that would take the country to the Promised Land”.

He said Buhari runs the affairs of Nigeria like he was not fully prepared for the job; or he was still in the military era, or he could not differentiate between democratic rule and military regime.

The Delta born bishop added: “Let’s look at the unfolding events since the President came into office, and you can see that today he has taken us over like 50 years backwards in this country.

“In my own point of view, Buhari is tired of ruling this country. He doesn’t know or have any tricks to play anymore, but simply destroying democracy, destroying the Constitution to enable him do whatever he likes, thereby encouraging people from outside the country, to come, pushing our poor soldiers to war where they are being slaughtered daily, our naira de-valued and salary not paid on time”, the infuriated man of God said.

The cleric said the President’s philosophy for governing the country had crashed and called on him to be honest enough to tell Nigerians he had misled them by listening to wrong advisers, thinking he was doing the right thing all along.”

While lamenting the uncertainty in the land, occasioned by misplaced priority and corruption, Mogekwu urged Buhari to own up to his absolute failure in governance, and gather persons that mean well and are ready to make Nigeria great.

“He should just simply own up to his failure and ask God to give him the grace to do the needful for Nigeria and Nigerians,” he said.

On how Nigeria can be great again, the 71 years old cleric advised every Nigerian, particularly political leaders, to embrace the doctrine of God, saying: “With God on our side, Nigeria will certainly bounce back to life”.
