Buhari tasks NIPSS on being world’s best think tank

President Muhammadu Buhari has applauded the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPPS) Jos, Plateau State, for its historic role in the national life of Nigeria, tasking the institute to up its game to be the best in the world.

President Muhammadu Buhari has applauded the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPPS) Jos, Plateau State, for its historic role in the national life of Nigeria, tasking the institute to up its game to be the best in the world.
   
Buhari said that the institute has been very consistent and has never failed in its assignment given it by the founding fathers of the institute, no matter the challenges, not even in the era of COVID– 19.
    
The President, who was represented by the Minister of Transportation, Muazu Sambo, an engineer, at the graduation ceremony of Senior Executive Course (SEC) 44, said that why he was commending the institute for its resilience and consistency, reminded the institute of ideas, new techniques, skills, new directions to guide policymaking at the highest level.
   


According to Buhari: “You need to follow the global dynamics in politics and guide the nation on the application of global best practices. I challenge the National Institute to strive to be at par with or surpass the best think tank in the world.
   
“We will do our best in fulfilling this charge and other mandates. Your effort by engaging other national critical issues has not gone unnoticed.”
     
He urged the 89 graduates of the institute to be more committed and come up with more innovative ideas aside from remaining focused on the discharge of their responsibility.
    
He charged the graduates to know that they are leaving the institute with a better understanding and knowledge of national issues.
     
In his welcome address, Director–General of NIPSS, Prof. Ayo Omotayo, disclosed that 90 persons registered for the course, but one of them withdrew on account of ill–health but unfortunately died later.

Omotayo admitted that the course was rigorous which improved their performance and stimulated their intellectual capacity for research and further research.
   
During their course, he said that the participants visited 14 states in Nigeria and some countries in Africa.
