A Kano-based political pressure group, under the aegies of Coalition for Excellence in Governance (CEG), yesterday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to disregard calls for the sacking of Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

National Coordinator of the group, Usman Abu Seriki Nu’ma, said in a statement that the CBN governor was doing an excellent job, describing the calls as campaign of calumny.

The group blamed disgruntled politicians as being the brains behind the agitation, noting that the governor should be supported to concentrate on the task of revamping the apex bank.

The group expressed concerned over the rate at which ethnicity is being injected into governance saying, “The lies being peddled against Emefiele were capable of detracting him and his team, which is all out to assist President Buhari, in bailing the country out of current economic crisis.”
