SENATOR-elect and leader of Northern Civil Coalition, Mallam Shehu Sani has said that the election of retired Major General Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential and parliamentary elections of March 28 represent a new hope and new dawn for Nigeria.
“The emergence of Buhari is a popular revolt against ineptitude and retrogression. With Buhari as president-elect and the opposition in power, Nigeria is on the march to greatness,” he said.
Mallam Sani himself who got the Senatorial ticket under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone, argued that “the transparency and credibility of the elections and the relative peace in the aftermath, saved our democracy, our freedom and raises the moral profile of our country. We have proven to the world the resilience of the Nigerian spirit. We have disproved our cynics, skeptics, pessimists and those who don’t believe in us. The election has given our people a sense of relief, of security, of assurance and strengthened their belief in their country”.
He added: “We have come from a dark, stained and tainted past of skulduggery, pervasive insecurity and hopelessness. The Buhari mandate must illuminate the path to our future. The near two decades of waste and corruption under the outgoing PDP was an era of national pestilence and afflictions. The Buhari mandate is a historic opportunity to rebuild this country from the prevailing social paralyses and the existing moral ruins.
“The Buhari mandate is a historic moment to end the scourge of corruption, combat the parasitism of entrenched interests and reset the clock and wheel for our journey to the future. We have lived through times of indignity, failed promises, dashed hopes; and We have lived through times of slaughter and bloodshed, acrimony and disharmony. It’s time for all Nigerians to give Buhari the serenity after the mandate so that he can lead us to the promised land.
“The era of Goodluck is over. Now is the time for the era of good reasoning to begin. Our president-elect must shun the politics of political appeasement and settlement. As a Senator with an activist background, I’ll be guided by my conscience in my support for our dear president-elect to succeed. I commend President Goodluck Jonathan for his uncommon courage and statesmanship in graciously conceding defeat against all temptations and pressures to do otherwise”.
