Buni appoints Yarima Ibn Mahmud as Yobe new emir of Ndazargamu

In no fewer than 24 hours after the burial of the late Emir of Ngazargamu, Alhaji Tijjani Ibn Saleh Geidam, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has approved the appointment of Alhaji Yerima Ibn Mahmud as the new emir of Ngazargamu.

 

The Ngazargamu emirate was created during the late Bukar Abba Ibrahim administration.

 

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Friday by the Acting Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mohammed Goje.

 

The new monarch succeeds the late Emir, who died in Cairo, Egypt after an undisclosed prolonged illness.

 

His body was laid to rest in Damaturu on Thursday, following a funeral prayers attended by dignitaries, traditional rulers and thousands of mourners.

 

Before his appointment, Alhaji Yerima Ibn Mahmud served as the Turakin Ngazargamu, a position he held for 16 years.

 

He also represented his constituency in the Yobe State House of Assembly and served in various capacities in government.

 

The new Emir was at different times a member of the Yobe State Executive Council and Commissioner for Livestock Development in the state.

 

Governor Buni, while congratulating the new Emir and the people of the Ngazargamu Chiefdom, expressed confidence in his ability to provide purposeful leadership and foster unity within the emirate.

 

The governor, therefore urged the new traditional ruler to deploy his vast administrative and leadership experience towards promoting peace, harmonious coexistence and socio-economic development across the emirate and the state at large.

 

Buni also called on residents of the emirate to support the new Emir in the discharge of his responsibilities, stressing the need for collective efforts to sustain peace, unity and prosperity in the area.
