THE Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has urged troops to remain focused and determined at Christmas and in the New Year to end Boko Haram insurgency, as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

This was contained in Buratai’s Christmas and New Year messages to troops of Operation Lafiya Dole to end insurgency in the northeast for peace and stability.

The COAS message read: “As believers and professionals, we owe a debt of gratitude and appreciation of Almighty God for His generous grace in each second of our lives in the theatre of operation.

“I extend my warmest felicitations and best wishes of joy, peace and goodwill on behalf of my family and the entire Nigerian Army to you all as you continue to render selfless service to the nation.

“You have all responded magnificently to various rigours and dangers within the
theatre of operation.

“You have struck fear into the hearts of the terrorists and overcome the resistance of insurgency in the northeast. Indeed, I am proud to say that the esteem in which the Nigerian Army is held today is higher than at any point I can recall in my career to date.

“I, therefore, wish to commend you all for your loyalty, vigilance, integrity, dedication and professionalism that enabled us to defend
our country’s territorial existence.”

He also urged the troops to remain focused, resolute and more determined to get the job done and discharge their duties in the best professional manner and in line with the Code of Conduct issued to you.

The Army chief prayed for the repose of the souls of dead soldiers and to God to continue to give their families the fortitudes to bear their loss, assuring that the military authorities and indeed Nigerians will continue to support their families and ensure that their noble sacrifices are always remembered and appreciated.

The COAS had earlier on Thursday assured residents of the northeast of a more peaceful region next year.

He gave the assurance after his operational visits to troops locations in parts of Borno and Yobe states.
