By election: Group demands sack of ministers who lost polling units

The Asiwaju Network has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sack underperforming ministers who failed to deliver their polling units and wards during the just-concluded by-elections.

In a statement on Monday in Abuja, signed by its president, Musa Ibrahim Dandoka, the group said the results were a litmus test that exposed the political weakness of some cabinet members.

Dandoka described their loss as troubling, insisting that a minister who cannot secure his polling unit lacks the political capital to defend the APC or advance Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He argued that retaining such officials undermines both the ruling party and the President’s credibility.

“This defeat is embarrassing and unacceptable. A minister who cannot win his polling unit cannot claim relevance in national politics. President Tinubu must weed out weak links and replace them with proven grassroots leaders,” he said.

The group stressed that these failures highlight a dangerous disconnect between ministers and their constituencies.

“Ministers are not just technocrats. They are political leaders of the party in their states. If they cannot hold their homes together, they do not deserve to hold national offices,” the statement added.

Dandoka maintained that Tinubu’s bold reforms in subsidy, economy, and security must be matched with political consolidation, which requires capable and electorally grounded ministers.

He commended APC loyalists who resisted intimidation, saying their resilience was the true strength of the party.

“The message is clear: APC cannot reward failure. President Tinubu must reshuffle his cabinet now or risk carrying political dead weight into future elections,” the group warned.
