CAN flays, Reps seek probe of female preacher’s murder
Adegboruwa decries President’s silence on killing
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed shock over the murder of Mrs. Eunice Elisha while evangelising. Mrs. Elisha was murdered in Kubwa, Buwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
In a statement yesterday in Abuja, General Secretary of CAN, Dr. Musa Asake, lamented multiple cases of attacks by Fulani herdsmen on various Christian communities all over the nation.
Asake said that in the South-East and South-South zones, there have been gruesome attacks on IPOB members and on Christian communities in the Niger Delta, stressing that all these are in addition to the relentless attacks by Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen in the Middle Belt and southern Borno.
He stated: “The Christian Association of Nigeria commiserates with the families affected by these mindless orgies of death and destruction as well as with the entire Christian community in Nigeria. We pray that God in His mercy shall comfort and strengthen the families of all Nigerians affected in these unwarranted killings by religious extremists.”
Besides, the House of Representatives has urged the Acting Inspector-General (IG) of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to carry out a thorough investigation of the gruesome murder of Mrs. Elisha.
Adopting the prayers of a motion brought under matters of urgent national importance by Babatunde Gabriel Kolawole at the resumption of plenary yesterday, the parliament, after observing a minute silence in honour of the late wife of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) pastor, Olawale Elisha from Ikare-Akoko in Ondo State, resolved to raise a delegation to commiserate with the deceased family.
It urged the FCT administration to demolish all shanties across the territory where miscreants are said to be hiding and from where they attack innocent citizens.
Meanwhile, a Lagos-based rights lawyer, Ebun Olu-Adegboruwa, yesterday described as worrisome, unfortunate and disappointing President Muhammadu Buhari’s silence on the gruesome murder of Mrs. Elisha.
Adegboruwa in a statement yesterday said that after listening to the Commissioner of Police of the FCT on Channels Television, coupled with the pictorial report of the wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo’s visit to the family of the deceased, “it became clearer to me that the President is deliberately keeping silent on this cold-blooded murder”.
He, therefore, called on the President to urgently visit the family of the Elishas.According to him, it is a great disservice to the loyalty of Osinbajo, and indeed all his supporters, for the President to openly ignore the barbaric and cold-blooded murder of Mrs. Elisha, who is also a pastor in the same church of his Vice President, which occurred right in the domain of the President in Abuja.

This open and unguided remarks at the president at every issue not only belittles the person of Mr. president but a total disregard to the position of the office. People should be careful on what or how they throw words at the president. Even if his age is not put into consideration, I am yet to see where he got it wrong by having his vice commensurate in his stead. Much as it’s painful to lose a loved one, particularly in that senseless manner, though I know and believed she had been received and rewarded greatly by her maker, It will be derogatory to at every point, castigate the president and the office anytime there was an incident in the country. I think he’s human too.
We will review and take appropriate action.
