The Kaduna chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has commended the state government for its peace and development programmes across the state, describing Governor Uba Sani as a listening leader who has been fulfilling his promises since assuming office.
The state CAN Chairman, Reverend Caleb Ma’aji, gave the commendation on Wednesday when the governor hosted Christian leaders for the breaking of the Ramadan fast at the Government House.
In his remarks, Ma’aji recalled that during a similar event last year, CAN had requested the governor to restore government sponsorship of Christian pilgrimage to Jerusalem, which had been suspended since 2015.
According to the CAN chairman, the governor promised to investigate why the government stopped the official sponsorship of pilgrimage before taking action on the request.
“This year, 49 people have gone to Jerusalem and are back. The last person in the contingent could not travel to the Holy Land because of a mix-up in his name, but he will soon depart for Jerusalem,” he disclosed.
Rev. Ma’aji also recalled that CAN had requested the construction of several roads, including the PAN Drive–Television Garage–Sabon Tasha Road, Samrada–Romi–Karatudu–Gonin Gora Road, and the Nasarawa–UNTL–Zenith Bank Kakuri Road.
“As I’m speaking now, the roads are being constructed to the highest standard, with asphalt and proper drainage,” he added.
The CAN chairman said Christians would continue to pray for God to grant Governor Sani wisdom, divine grace and dexterity as he leads the state to greater heights.
He expressed confidence that the governor would leave Kaduna State better than he met it, noting that he has already recorded significant achievements in his two and a half years in office.
Also speaking at the event, Bishop Joseph Yari, former chairman of the Kaduna State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, commended the governor for restoring pilgrimage to Jerusalem.
Bishop Yari, who was among the pilgrims, said the Kaduna State contingent prayed for continued peace in Nigeria and Kaduna State during their visit to the Holy Land.
Responding, Governor Sani noted that the restoration of state sponsorship of Christian pilgrimage aligns with his administration’s philosophy of justice, equity and fairness.
He pledged to restore Kaduna State to its past glory, when people of different ethnic groups and religions lived peacefully and pursued their livelihoods in harmony.
The governor lamented that the state had been losing its reputation as the “home for all Nigerians” due to years of ethno-religious crises, adding that his administration is determined to reverse the situation.
Sani also noted that he regularly hosts Iftar with religious leaders and other stakeholders during Ramadan to receive feedback on government policies and programmes.
According to him, this year’s Iftar is particularly significant as both Muslims and Christians are observing Ramadan fasting and Lent respectively.
He urged religious leaders to continue supporting his administration and that of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in order to deliver the dividends of democracy and achieve sustainable development.
