A Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Monday sentenced a 27-year-old car wash operator, Suleiman Ibrahim, to one month imprisonment for mischief.

Ibrahim had pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of mischief, begged for leniency and promised not to commit the offence again.

The judge, Abubakar Sadiq, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N5,000.

Sadiq, however, warned the convict to desist from committing crimes after serving his punishment.

The prosecutor, Salisu Khaleel, had told the court that the matter was reported by Yusuf Kingsley of Karmo, Abuja, to the Life Camp Police Station on Feb. 29.

Khaleel said that the complainant left his Blue Mazda car with the car wash operator for washing while he attended to other issues.

He said the convict drove the car without the permission of the owner and had an accident along Gwarimpa express Road, Abuja, and caused damage to the rear.

Khaleel said that during investigation the convict could not give satisfactory explanations, adding that the cost of repair was not yet known.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 327 of the Penal Code.
