Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev Dr. Callistus Onaga, yesterday, said that it is becoming increasingly difficult for Nigerians to afford basic things of life, asking those in authority to begin to make things easier for the people.

Onaga lamented that necessities such as yam, rice, clothing and even shelter were no longer affordable to the common man due to increasing costs, stressing that something should be done to address the trend.

He also appealed to Nigerians to stop worsening the suffering of fellow Nigerians with outrageous price hikes in household items during the festive period.

Onaga observed while delivering his 2024 Christmas message in his office in Enugu yesterday. He attributed the current hardship to the government’s failure to address insecurity, which, according to him, had prevented people from cultivating their farms.

However, the Archbishop, Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Bishop, Diocese of Awka, His Grace, Most Rev Alexander Chibuzu Ibezim, has called for the release of Bishop Godwin Izundu Okpala who was abducted with his driver about 10 days ago in Anambra State.

Ibezim appealed to the Cathedral Church of St. Faith, Awka, yesterday, during the 2024 Advent Priestly ordination of nine candidates.

The event was witnessed by several clergymen, friends and well-wishers of the ordained priests who sang, danced and thanked God for making the celebration a success.
