Cattle RustlersCATTLE rustlers yesterday killed one Tanko Nyam, a cattle breeder in Kyaru village, Daddu District of Jaba Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

The deceased, according to report, was killed in the early hours of Friday, when he trailed the rustlers who carted away 20 cows belonging to him.

The District Head of Daddu, Bello Shamaki, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the deceased, alongside others, trailed the rustlers from Kyari village to Kagoma in Jema’a Local Government Area.

“The rustlers noticed he was trailing them and, therefore, shot and killed him instantly, after setting his motorcycle ablaze,” he said.

While expressing concern over the spate of cattle rustling in the area, the district head called on government to take drastic measures to stem the menace, stressing that the ugly trend had always led to wanton loss of lives and property besides the trauma that often trailed such attacks. He stated that others who trailed the rustlers alongside the deceased took cover in nearby bushes.

According to NAN, the Director, Personnel Management at the local government, Mr. Philip Galadima, said the local authority had met with stakeholders, especially security agents to discuss ways of enhancing security in the area.

He, however, appealed to the people not to take the law into their hands by avoiding any act that could lead to a breach of the peace.
