Ogun to commence rail lines extension, presents STMP to NRC
The China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) has officially launched its cargo freight service on the Lagos-Ibadan Railway, heralding a significant advancement in Nigeria’s logistics and transportation sector.
The announcement was made on Friday through the official X account (formerly Twitter) of John Zhao, CCECC’s representative in Nigeria.
The inaugural journey, leveraging a cross-border rail transport model, commenced at the Ajuba Bonded Terminal, where cargo was transported to Apapa Port in Lagos.
MEANWHILE, the Ogun State government said it had presented the state’s Strategic (Multi-Modal) Transportation Master Plan (STMP) to the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) towards establishing the state’s interest and developing rail lines in the state.
The state’s Commissioner for Transportation, Olugbenga Dairo, presented the STMP to the NRC team at the Corporation’s Conference Room in Lagos, during a courtesy visit by the state representatives, yesterday.
He said the visit served three different purposes towards establishing the state’s interest, which include the presentation of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s congratulations to the Managing Director of the NRC, Dr Kayode Opeifa, on his well-deserved appointment, secondly, the STMP, and thirdly, the commencement of process for the implementation of the rail sub-sector interventions in the state, specifically the Lagos Red and Blue Line extensions, which enjoys the support of the Federal and Lagos State governments.
In his remarks, Opeifa, who expressed delight in the visitation, said it would deepen infrastructural relationships, as the NRC and Ogun State have a lot to play out in rail development, assuring the state of cooperation on the implementation of the rail extension projects.
