The Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), Oyo State Chapter, has backed Governor Seyi Makinde’s call for the United Nations (UN) to investigate the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, describing the move as a necessary step towards ensuring justice and preventing future attacks.
The council gave its support at the end of its general meeting held in Iseyin, Oke-Ogun area of the state.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Bishop Ademola Moradeyo, the council said the governor’s appeal was in line with the UN’s global responsibility to protect children and promote accountability in cases involving mass abductions.
According to the statement, the United Nations had previously supported investigations into similar incidents, including the abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls in 2014 and the Dapchi schoolgirls in 2018.
The council maintained that an independent, transparent and impartial investigation would help restore public confidence, ensure justice for the victims and their families, and reinforce efforts to protect citizens from similar security threats.
It also assured the affected families of its continued prayers and moral support, expressing hope that the victims would recover fully from the traumatic experience.
The council urged residents of the state to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely and credible information capable of preventing criminal activities.
