The Association of Civil Society and Public Interest Organisation in Nigeria (CCSPION), said that there is a need for political leaders in power to give an account of stewardship in office.

National Coordinator of CCSPION, Abraham Ekokotu, disclosed this call in Abuja, at the press briefing, called on Zamfara State governor Dauda Lawal to tell the world how he managed to meander through the service of the First Bank of Nigeria with such credentials and even got to the pinnacle of his banking career.

He said: “According to available records, Lawal claimed to be born in 1965 and 1969 under different names. He swore to two different affidavits at the Supreme Court of Nigeria where he claimed to be Dauda Muhammed Lawal. In another breath, the same person on other documents is Dauda Ado Lawal.

“As if not enough, the same Lawal registered as Dauda ‘Nile, please verify this name’ in one of the documents tendered to INEC with discrepancies in his place of birth. This brings the organization into huge confusion as to why a supposed sitting Governor will engage in such incoherence and multiple names or identities.

“The governor based on the above analysis should be subjected to public scrutiny and brought to the court of public opinion and he owes it a duty to tell Nigerians how many times was he born by his parents, how many places were he born by his parents, how many names were he given at birth and above all, what exactly is his name?.

“We also invite all the Law Enforcement Agencies in Nigeria to put Governor Dauda under watch and subject him to give an account of his stewardship in office for the inflated contracts he awarded to Road Construction Companies before he finds his route to the United States of America (US) after stepping down from power.”

In his remarks, representative of the Eastern People Forum, Favour Chidozie, called on leaders in the county to know that Nigerians as people of peace have woken up to fight against corruption.

Also, the National Secretary of the group, Hussain Abubarkar, called on the EFCC to remain steadfast in its fight against corruption in Nigeria and proceed to deal with any person who loots or launders.

He said: “We call on the Supreme Court of Nigeria which is the hope of the common man and stabilizer of the state to look deeply into the resume of the man sitting as the governor of Zamafara State with a view to sacking and strip him of the immunity he currently enjoys.

“He enjoyed the confidence of Godwin Emefiele and Deziani Madueke, both of whom are answering shameful corruption cases in their different locations. For this reason, Dauda Lawal who lies through to power must be punished for his numerous. Governor Dauda should not go scot free when all the evidence weighs against him, he will be brought to book like others who are currently facing trials on corruption charges at various courts.”
