Chief arrested for flouting CDA Law

The former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase yesterday arrested a Benin chief, the Ohen of Amufi community in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo state, Iyi Eware Aisenogua and others for allegedly flouting the law banning Community Development Associations (CDAs) by the state House of Assembly.

He was arrested when he failed to appear before the Task Force as a result of allegation that he was disrupting development in the community.

He was alleged to have been frustrating the effort of a developer who wanted to construct 400 housing units in the community.

Addressing journalists at Government House, Benin City, yesterday, the secretary of the Committee and Special Adviser to the governor on Community and Political Matters, Chief Osaro Idah said that irrespective of the status of Aisenogua, he was arrested because he flouted the law. “Developers wanted to acquire land for the construction of 400 housing units, but were disrupted by community heads of the CDA. We invited the people involved but to our greatest surprise they did not only insult our emissaries, they threw the letter sent to them on the floor”.

“So since somebody says we do not have powers to invite him because he is above the law, we have invited the police to arrest him and investigate the matter,” he said.
