Chris Oyakhilome Foundation gives out over $100,000 to celebrate African youth at FALA Awards

Ten outstanding youth leaders from across Africa, who have made significant contributions in their communities, will be declared winners of the 2021 FALA Awards and rewarded by the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International.

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome is rewarding young African leaders at the Future Africa Leaders’ Awards on Friday, December 31st.

The Future Africa Leaders’ Foundation (FALF), an arm of the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International (COFI), identifies and celebrates young leaders from all over Africa.

It does so by supporting youths who have demonstrated exemplary leadership by impacting their generation positively through education, youth empowerment and mentoring to prepare other young people for a positive future.

The passionate philanthropist Pastor Chris Oyakhilome is the founder of the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International (COFI), a non-profit and non-governmental organization with the mission to help the most vulnerable people and communities in some of the poorest countries and regions of the world.

Through COFI, Chris Oyakhilome believes in supporting strong foundations of communities by promoting good governance, accountable leadership and sustainable development on the African continent and other parts of the globe.

Some of COFI’s partners are the InnerCity Mission for Children, the Volunteer Medical Corps, the Future Africa Leaders’ Foundation and more.

Celebrating Outstanding Young African Leaders

Since 2013, the Future Africa Leaders’ Foundation has honored over 80 exceptional young leaders for making a positive impact.
Every year, 30 outstanding young African leaders, who have made significant benefactions to the economic development, socio-political, agricultural and educational sectors of their countries through special projects and initiatives, have been nominated for the Future Africa Leaders’ Awards (FALA).

This year, the nominations took place on Sunday, December 19th, 2021, and viewers enjoyed the emotional live event on all LoveWorld networks and digital platforms.

The live broadcast was the ninth edition of the FALA nomination show, and 30 young African leaders were announced. Their inspiring stories were shared with the online audience.

Meet Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s 30 FALA Nominees
Ten winners will be picked from these nominees according to their efforts in improving the well-being of people in their communities.

They will receive a $10,000 cash prize, and the winner of the Star Prize will receive $25,000 to boost his or her inventions.

Meet a few of the nominees from 20 African countries here:
Asma Rouabhia, a change-maker from Tunisia; Deo-Gratias Meyou, a transformational leader from The Republic of Benin; Chelsea Jegede, a 20-year-old visionary from Nigeria; Aguidi Cesar, a 23-year-old community organizer and youth advocate from Togo; Jalloh Kadiatu, an advocate for women and girls’ rights from Sierra Leone; Derrick Absalom, a 21-year-old youth leader from Tanzania; Matilda Sampong, a passionate philanthropist and mentor from Ghana; Marvel Mthembu, an influencer and leader from South Africa; Zulu Destiny, a humanitarian leader from Zambia; and more.

Their successes and achievements will be honored with a special award ceremony at the Christ Embassy New Year’s Eve Service with Pastor Chris Oyakhilome on Friday, December 31st at 8 PM (GMT+1).

Star Prize Winner Creates System for Blood Donation

The winner of the Star Prize 2020, Gwei Michael Wawa from Cameroon, is a 22-year-old social activist, who is passionate about scientific and technological solutions for Africa’s advancement.

He started an NGO called “Youth Empowerment through Science and Technology” (YEST). The organization held 34 conferences and 14 seminars that directly impacted over 18,000 young people.

Challenged by the high demand for blood in Cameroon, Gwei Michael Wawa created a digital health service platform called YEST-IN DHS, which provides 24-hour online free consultation and supports services for hospitals, health centers and non-profit organizations with special attention to helping them manage the blood donation process digitally and networking blood donors, hospitals, blood recipients and health care workers.

Over 10,000 people have registered on the website, with over 2,400 liters of blood donated in just five months of operations.

Former Liberian President Praises Pastor Chris for Changing Lives

In 2019, Former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was invited by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome to announce the FALA Awards winners.

She delivered a speech to the LoveWorld Nation and the global audience, where she acknowledged the life-transforming work done by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome.
“How does one man of God become able to change so many lives? It can only be because of the spirit of caring and sharing, and that spirit is changing the lives of others. I want to praise you for all you have done,” she said.

Ellen Johnson Sirleaf presented the Star Prize Winner 2019, Babiene Heline Eweni from Cameroon. She is a 23-year-old passionate activist who sees how to fulfill the potential of young people.
Her zeal for youth empowerment triggered her to host a six-week skill acquisition workshop under the “Leadership Initiative Award,” attended by hundreds of young people who developed different skills.

Furthermore, she organized free medical check-up campaigns, where over 400 children were examined. Babiene Heline Eweni took many steps to improve the living conditions of 8,000 Cameroonian refugees in Nigeria.

Young African leaders’ successes and achievements of 2021 will be honored with a special award ceremony on New Year’s Eve on Friday, December 31st.
