Civil Defence confirms death of two officers in Benue State
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has confirmed the death of two of its officers in the attack on Wanger village of Guma council area of Benue State on the 11th of this month during an exchange of gunfire with herdsmen.
In a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Corps Adakole (ASCI) John Peter, the affected officers were identified as Adams Godwin and Abah Patrick.
According to him, the late Adams was enlisted on July 14, 2010 as ASCII, but was later promoted to ASCl on January 1, 2014 and Deputy Superintendent of Corps (DSC) on January 1, 2017.
He noted that Patrick, who was recruited as a Lance Corporal on October 26, 2007 and promoted as Senior Corps Assistant on January 1, 2014, had written his promotion examination on December 23, 2017 before his demise.
He faulted the claims in certain quarters that the departed officers were recruited in 2017.
He said: “It should be noted that the NSCDC never recruited in 2016 and 2017. The two slain officers were never in this category.”
