Cleric asks Nigerians to support anti-graft war

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari’s war against corruption and recovery of billions of naira of looted funds have received a nod from the Bishop of Ijebu Anglican Diocese, Ogun State, Rt. Revd. Ayodele Awosoga, who urged Nigerians to support the fight.

The cleric also charged government at all levels to be prudent in the management of resources and avoid wastages in order to make the country survive the prevailing economic downturn.

Awosoga, who was addressing a press conference in Ijebu-Ode to herald the 40th anniversary of the diocese, noted that the current situation in the country required prayer.

He said though the nation’s problems were not insurmountable, the clergyman, however, noted that the citizens must cooperate with the authorities, “especially in sanitising governance and enhancing economic emancipation.”

“Though there has been a change in government, the concomitant change in the economy due to the fall of petroleum price and the value of naira has made the problem more complex. Added to this is the insecurity problem and the call for the fractionalisation of the nation by a section, the picture looks gloomy,” he said.

According to him, “God is greater than the problems of Nigeria. He has been fixing our problems for us. This time it is our belief that He shall see us through and restore to us the fortunes lost during the years of the locusts and grasshoppers.‎”

Awosoga, therefore, charged governments to adequately utilise Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for development purposes.
