The General Overseer and President, of Christ Gospel Apostolic Church (CGAC), Apostle Samson Afolabi, has emphasised the need for Nigerians to shun tribal sentiments and embrace unity.

The General Overseer and President, of Christ Gospel Apostolic Church (CGAC), Apostle Samson Afolabi, has emphasised the need for Nigerians to shun tribal sentiments and embrace unity.

The cleric stated this, yesterday, during a conference to herald the 60th anniversary and yearly convention of the church scheduled to hold between Monday, November 7 and Sunday, November 13, 2022, at the church’s central auditorium in Isolo, Lagos.

Afolabi said the convention was designed to tackle challenges in the country, family and globally, among others.

He said: “The challenge of our time is enormous both at the family, church, community, national and global levels. We are at the forefront of appealing to the conscience and consciousness of people to embrace godliness as the only virtue that can engender unity, progress, prosperity and global peace”

He added: “As a church, we have come of age, but just like Apostle Paul said in one of his famous homilies, we are still pressing forward.

We cannot afford to rest because the forces of darkness are on the rampage to deny mankind of God’s original plan.

“Our founder, Baba Apostle Paul Oladejo Okedoyin, of blessed memory, said our church is for those who want the best. Buoyed by this statement, and not oblivious of those great sacrifices he made to take the church to this enviable height, from one small gathering of like minds to where we are present, the baton is already in our hands to take it to the next level.

“It is in this light that as leader of this great commission, I am greatly indebted to all members of the executive council, ordained ministers, workers in various departments and other men and women of goodwill who have laboured and still labouring to ensure that the foundation is still strong and the building is still standing to the glory of God.”

He added that as the 2023 general elections draw near, the church is intentional about using the convention to intensify prayers for levels of leadership in the country, and more importantly in the area of security, for God’s intervention in the electioneering process such that only the leaders He has chosen would emerge at all levels.

Deputy General Superintendent and the Convention Chairman, Pastor Joshua Adejumo, said next year’s polls were crucial for the country and the church believed that only prayers could give the country its desired leaders.
