Association inaugurates members, awards individuals
Oshodi Ordained Christian Ministers Association (OOCMA), Lagos, has appealed to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Chairman of Oshodi/Isolo Local Council, Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede, to assist Oshodi residents with pipe-borne water and rehabilitate their roads and make them motorable.
The association has also resolved to partner with the government for the development of the community.
The appeal was made by the association’s President, Bishop (Prof.) Cyriacus Uwanaka, while delivering his speech at the inauguration and awards ceremony with the theme: “The beginning of a New Era,” held, at the weekend, in Oshodi.
He noted the association’s efforts and how they had complemented the council in its drive to make the community better.
The association, he said, had decided to officially inaugurate its executive members to make it more visible.
Uwanaka, who debunked insinuations that pastors only collect tithes and offerings without helping their members and the community, said that OOCMA members are different in all aspects, saying: “We have drilled boreholes in the community for free and carried out HIV/AIDS campaign in the area to sensitise people about the danger, as well as inviting health officials from NAFRC Charity for HIV/AIDS seminars and demonstrations in 2003 for Oshodi and its environs.”
He, however, urged well-meaning Nigerians to help the association to do more in the area.
Also in his exhortation and counselling, National Vice President of Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, Archbishop Charles Olu-Odus, warned the ministers to learn from what happened to Samson and Delilah in the Bible and imbibe holiness as a way of life, especially as they do the work of the ministry.
He urged ministers who run independent ministries to desist from it and belong to a particular church where people would know them and what they are doing for God.
The association used the occasion to reward some individuals for their sincere dedication and commitment to the progress and development of the Oshodi community.
