Climate Change: House of Reps lauds Onuigbo’s nomination as global leader
As the world gathers in Dubai, United Arab Emirates for COP 28, the Nigeria House of Representatives has praised one of theirs, Sam Onuigbo, for his recognition by New York-based Business Insider as one of the 30 Global Leaders on Climate Change.
Recognising the publication as a milestone for Nigeria, the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, noted that as a former member of the Green Chamber, Onuigbo sponsored the Climate Change bill that was passed by the 9th National Assembly that was assented to by president in the last administration.
The Speaker, who announced the selection during plenary stated: “I am pleased to bring to you the news of the recognition of Hon. Sam Onuigbo FCIS FNIM as a Global Leader on Climate Change by Business Insider, a New York City-based financial and business news agency.
“Hon. Sam is a former member of this House and currently member of the Governing Board of the North East Development Commission. As a worthy Ambassador of this House, Hon. Onuigbo, has been at the vanguard of global action on climate change; he sponsored the Climate Change bill passed by the National Assembly that was assented to by Mr President Muhammadu Buhari in the last administration.
“The Act provides the legal framework for building and ensuring a climate friendly Nigeria. On behalf of this House, I congratulate Hon. Sam Onuigbo on this milestone.”
The Speaker disclosed that Onuigbo currently chairs the Committee on Security, Climate Change and Special interventions at the NEDC.
