Female students of Oregun Senior High School, Lagos have received 420 sanitary packs from the Rotary Club of Lagos Palmgrove Estate, District 9110.

Female students of Oregun Senior High School, Lagos have received 420 sanitary packs from the Rotary Club of Lagos Palmgrove Estate, District 9110.

President of the club, Jayashankar Nalode, said the donation was made due to the fact that about 20 per cent of girls are absent from class during their monthly cycle, which affects their learning. The club thereafter decided to distribute the sanitary packs to encourage them in their education and inculcate in them hygienic method of taking care of themselves.

Nalode disclosed that the club would begin the distribution of another 1,000 packs to female students in secondary schools, which would be increased in two months time to 2,000 and later in the year to about 5,000 packs monthly.

Principal of Oregun High School, Mrs. Esther Olaniran Adeniyi, commended the club for extending their hands of fellowship to the school. Maria Adekoya, a JS3 student, also expressed appreciation for the gesture.

Also, the club also visited Estate Senior Grammar School, Ilupeju, to plant trees and distribute 630 sanitary packs to female students. Nalode disclosed that the packs were distributed to cover two months since the students would soon go on holidays.

He hinged the tree planting exercise on the dearth of water in the ground as a result of infrastructural and industrial development, which has compelled digging very deep to get water these days while trees will also help to spread oxygen.

Chairman, District Planet Earth/Tree Planting Committee, District 9110, Past President Jellily Efedi, said the exercise was being carried out to inculcate into the students the habit and importance of tree planting, which Lagos State government is encouraging with a view to beautify the environment and create more oxygen.
