Ikeja Metro Lions Club, Lions International, District 404B2 recently organized a programme titled: “Club Quality Initiative: A Strategic Planning Tool to Help Clubs Identify Opportunities for Improvement” at Crownedge Hotel & Suites, Ikeja, Lagos.

The Facilitator and Lions Certified Instructor, Past District Governor, Taiwo Adewunmi at the programme further expatiated that the concept of the programme was to look at some of the very vibrant clubs within the district, train the members, access their performance with a view to making the clubs better and more proficient.

“We go to each club, allow the members to come together and decide exactly how they want to run their clubs provided they are in line with the global best practices of what lions club international stands for.

“Today, we have executed this programme for Ikeja Metro Lions Club and have identified their peculiar challenges which we are going to address. Members were given the opportunity to speak out their minds and suggest methods they feel we should adopt to move the club forward.

“We have identified the challenges and needs of the members, the club as well as that of the community in different categories. The next step of this training is to draw what is known as smart goals for which a committee will be set up to do what we call the development of planning and a timeline will be set with close monitoring. At the end of the lions’ year, we would all come together again and assess ourselves.

“Today, I expect every member of Ikeja Metro Lions club to become better lions because a trained lion is a better lion,” he said.

The District Governor, Lions International, District 404B2, Lion Aare Olalekan Owolabi at the event said the programme afforded members of the club to be together as a team, providing a forum for interaction which gave them the opportunity to cross-fertilize ideas which would really make each of them to become an effective leader in future.
“Workshop like this is very strategic as it will re-awaken their interest based on their trajectory of where they are coming from, where they are now and where they are planning to go,” he said.

He named the District’s core project for his service year as expanding re-building, refurbishing and equipping the Lagos State University Eye Institute which would be supported by Lions Club International foundation.

The President of the Club, Lion Godson Ikechukwu Anigbo said he believed in training and was glad members of the club were brought together to assess themselves, and know how far they had gone with a view to moving forward.

Club Global Leadership Team Coordinator, Blessing Umebali described Club Quality Initiative as a catalyst for a positive change which borders on training members to improve their services, membership growth and leadership.

She disclosed that the programme would be a continuous exercise that would be held every year to move the club forward.
