CMD debunks deteriorating claims of Benue Teaching Hospital

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Prof Terrumun Swende has debunked claims that the tertiary healthcare centre has been sinking in the past few years. He said rather the hospital has been rated higher in healthcare delivery among teaching hospitals in the country.

He claimed his position was backed by the 97,000 euros grant the hospital won from Heineken Foundation International in recognition of BSUTH healthcare delivery efforts. This, he said, was aside another grant from AIDS Preventive Initiative Nigeria to equip its blood bank.

He said under his leadership, the facility conducts hip replacement surgery for N60,000 as social service to the people while children patients are made to pay half of medical bills.

Swende said, though the hospital’s greatest challenge remains funds, it has prudently managed available resources and will not relent in breaking new grounds in healthcare services to Nigerians.

On inadequate staffing of the hospital, the CMD admitted that such was unavoidable in certain areas, because experts were not even available in the market.

He announced that the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria has granted five years full accreditations to BSUTH to train consultant radiologists.
