The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) in Ekiti State has asked Governor Ayodele Fayose to transparently apply the fresh bailout cash being planned by the Federal Government for states to pay salary arrears of workers, pensions and severance allowances of past political appointees.

In a statement after their emergency meeting in Ado-Ekiti over the current crisis in the state, CNPP said the governor’s usual excuse of falling federal allocations and debts payment would no longer be acceptable to the people if he misapplied the fresh bailout cash.

“The state is already grounded over unpaid salaries that cannot be explained with facts after the governor collected 20 months allocations and uncountable channels of internally generated revenue to boot, including cuts in overhead wage after deleting about 28,000 people from the wage bill of Ekiti State,” the conference explained.

To address the sufferings of Ekiti workers, CNPP urged the governor to halt working on capital projects that add little or no value to the state in order to defray salary arrears of workers to save the people from hunger.

“During his campaign, Governor Fayose dwelled more on providing stomach infrastructure above physical infrastructure development, arguing that it is when people do not go hungry that one can talk about physical infrastructure.

“But just within a year, the governor curiously made a somersault, pushing stomach infrastructure to the background in favour of a needless fly-over project at a spot in the state capital that has no record of traffic gridlock.’’
