‘Collaboration between schools, host communities critical to raising education quality’

Lagos State Government has said the key to quality education and conducive learning environment in secondary schools is collaborative efforts between principals and community stakeholders that included School Based Management Committee (SBMC) members in their host communities.
The Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folashade Adefisayo, stated this at a one-day capacity building workshop for principals and SBMC members in secondary schools by Human Development Initiatives (HDI) with support from Macarthur Foundation.
She noted that the school system is grappling with many challenges that would require the principal collaborating with SBMC members to find solutions to the problems.

Adefisayo maintained that for SBMC members to mobilise resources to meet school needs and development planning for quality education would demand cooperation between the principals and the communities, which SBMC members could facilitate.
The Executive Director of HDI, Mrs. Olufunsho Owasanoye, said the training became necessary because it was noticed that there are a lot of gaps and concerns in schools.

So, the training is to help SBMC members understand their roles of helping to raise standard in schools and provide needed support to the principal and schools to meet these concerns and bridge the gaps.
