A rescued victim of the collapsed two-storey building at No. 43 Ladipo Oluwole Street, in Apapa Government Reserved Area (GRA), Lagos, Obinna David, yesterday relived his near death experience.
The middle-aged man, who works in the building site, was rescued by well meaning Nigerians, shortly after the incident on Sunday. Narrating his experience to The Guardian yesterday, David said it was only him and a carpenter that came to work on the day the building collapsed because others left for Sallah holiday.
He said: “I was sleeping and heard a sound. I came out thinking it was the carpenter that had started work, but I did not see anybody. I went back to continue sleeping. I heard a second sound only for me to discover that the building had collapsed.
“It was only me that was inside the building at the time of the incident because the carpenter had gone out.
“When the building collapsed, I sustained injuries in my hands because I had to jump to a nearby building and was helped by people around.”
MEANWHILE, policemen and officials of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA) on ground, refused to comment on the issue.
However, it was learnt that the officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) had sealed the building as no one was allowed to enter the premises when journalists visited.
